A medical procedure with the scanning of any part of the body to diagnose the cause of the problem in that part of the patient's body is called FLUOROSCOPY.
It also can be used to guide treatments such as implants or injections, or in orthopedic surgery. It helps the healthcare provider look inside organs, joints, muscles, and bones.
This is similar to x-ray only difference been that x-ray is a picture while fluoroscopy, series of x-rays, is a like a movie, showing inner lining as it moves and gives clearer interpretation.
It is used to help diagnose causes of stomach pain, such as ulcers, foreign body or masses. When the upper GI tract is coated with the barium-based contrast (which is given to the patient as a drink), the radiologist can view and assess the anatomy and function of the esophagus, stomach and duodenum (proximal small intestine).
