GZ Industrial Supplies is a distributor of Sigma Marine coatings in Nigeria, Our SIGMATHERM 1027 SIGMA HI-TEMP 1027™ coatings Prevents CUI with superior protection for extreme temperature conditions. Direct application to hot steel up to 316°C (600°F)

SIGMATHERM 1027 SIGMA HI-TEMP 1027™ coatings Features

  • Provides corrosion resistance under extreme temperature range from –185°C to 650 °C (–300°F to 1,200°F)

  • Can be applied directly to hot substrates up to 316°C (600°F)

  • Prevents corrosion under insulation (CUI)

  • Prevents chloride-induced external stress corrosion cracking of insulated austenitic stainless steel

  • Ideal for cryogenic service

  • Excellent UV stability to prevent corrosion of non-insulated surfaces subject to atmospheric exposure

  • Simple to use: one-component, surface tolerant, and open recoat window

  • Proven worldwide track record with excellent results

Proven, long-lasting protection

The PPG HI-TEMP 1027 coating prevents Corrosion Under Insulation (CUI) of carbon and stainless steel over an extreme temperature range from –185°C to 650°C (–300°F to 1,200°F) and also from –185°C to 538°C (–300°F to 1000°F) for cryogenic service on stainless steel.

CUI is one of the costliest problems affecting the oil, gas and chemical industry today and accounts for the most unexpected downtime. In addition, unseen corrosion can lead to catastrophic failures including loss of life.

Protective coatings used in these environments must be able to withstand multiple abuses and have a particular set of characteristics in order to be effective. The PPG HI-TEMP 1027 has been specifically formulated to meet a range of service demands while being flexible for various applications.

The following test environments describe the versatility of the coating.

Resistance to boiling water

The PPG HI-TEMP 1027 coating is resistant to intermittent immersion in boiling water and designed to resist the severe empirical conditions of a continually changing harsh environment. Our proprietary test method replicates a variety of conditions over repeated test cycles to ensure field performance.

Heat and thermal shock resistance

Thermal shock can cause cracking, fracturing and delamination of typical coatings. The resulting breach allows water to come into contact with steel and leads to CUI.

To prevent this problem, the PPG HI-TEMP 1027 coating withstands severe cyclic conditions in the cryogenic temperature range through to an elevated temperature of 650°C (1,200°F) with no effect to the coating. The coating adhesion is very good throughout the temperature range yet maintains its flexibility.

Direct application to hot steel up to 316°C (600°F)

The ability to apply a protective coating to directly to hot steel avoids the need for costly plant shutdowns. The PPG HI-TEMP 1027 coating can be applied to hot operating equipment and surface application temperatures up to 316°C (600°F).

Excellent choice for maintenance – easy for touch-up and repair

Formulated for easy application, the PPG HI-TEMP 1027 coating is surface tolerant, and can be applied to tightly adhering rust in maintenance and repair situations. Its broad recoat window also makes future touch-up and repair tasks easier.

Simple to use

The PPG HI-TEMP 1027 coating is a single-component material, which can be applied by spray, brush or roller. The product dries by air, so no heat cure is required. In contrast, epoxy-based coatings systems are constrained due to the multi-component system and pot life.

Frequently Asked Questions

1.Can I use the same paint on the hull and topside areas?

The hull and topside areas have different requirements, so it's recommended to use specific paints designed for each area. Hull paint is typically formulated for underwater use and has antifouling properties, while topside paint is more suitable for above-the-waterline areas.

2.How can I maintain the painted surfaces on my boat?

Regular maintenance is crucial to extend the life of the painted surfaces on your boat. This includes cleaning the surface regularly, avoiding harsh chemicals or abrasive materials, addressing any damage or scratches promptly, and applying touch-ups or recoating as necessary.

3.Can I use marine paint for non-marine applications?

Marine paint is specifically designed for marine environments and may not be suitable for non-marine applications. However, some marine paints can be used for other applications such as outdoor furniture or metal structures, depending on the specific product and manufacturer's recommendations.
